Gourmet Food Trucks (7)

Re: No Reservation Truck

Such an awesome truck.  They sell “gourmet” wraps.  The first time I tried this truck was when I was sick.  I had finished eating ramen and was just looking at the different truck and their respective menus.  The garlic fries sounds like it was good.  It was voted the “best fries” by some magazine.  Hearing their front man speak about the “gourmet food without the gourmet prices and wait” also piqued my interest.  So despite being sick, I ordered the fries.

And guess what?  The garlic fries are amazingly good.  Their caper anchovy aioli sauce is one the best tasting condiments I’ve ever hard.  It is as good as Athena Grill’s special eggplant and garlic dipping sauce. I even got a second cup of sauce too.  Their front man was great.

I started chatting with the front man while I’m coughing and eating these amazing garlic fries.  His name is Sheldon.  He and his partners already have a catering business and they just wanted to try their hand at the food truck business.  He’s tried other food trucks (Kogi, Calbi, Grilled Cheese, etc) and some of the trucks impressed him while others not so much.  He shares similar sentiment as I do about the long wait at Kogi i.e.  the food although good, is not worth waiting over 30 minutes for.  He let me taste one of the meats that is used in his wraps.  Wow, it was good.  In the end, after finishing the fries, I asked to take a menu back.  Hopefully the company will use them for the lunches.

I had this again.  They had a special “Smoked and Curried Chicken taco” to try which I did.  This is probably one of the best tacos I’ve had so far.  The chicken was well spiced.  It wasn’t overly spicy like some of the Korean tacos but it also wasn’t dry like some of the other Korean tacos.  It provided a nice crunch and it was just juicy enough that it didn’t leave a huge mess.  Oh and the garlic fries tasted even better when I wasn’t coughing.  The aioli sauce is great.

Re: Papas Tapas
There is no official homepage.  But this truck offers one of my favorite types of food -- Spanish Tapas.  For those that don’t know, I’ve been a tapas fan ever since a friend introduced me to Thirsty Bear Brewing on 3rd and Howard in San Francisco.  Although the selection they had wasn’t much, I tried their croquetas and tortilla espanola.  The croquetas were good hot.  It looks like a tater tot at first but when you bite into it, the creaminess oozes out and you taste the bacon and cheese filling.  The tortilla espanola isn’t the traditional flat cheesy mexican tortillas that you find.  These are potato and eggs type of tortillas.  You could say they look similar to a baked quiche.  The spicy sauce that came with it complemented the tortilla really well.

I would definitely try this particular truck again.  I hope I can one day find and try the other tapas truck.  Unfortunately it seem to be rolling around in the OC area only
